The Shade Tree Shelter first offered a safe place to sleep in 1990, when it established cots in the basement of Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church. Members of the diocese collaborated with individuals from the Junior League of Las Vegas and the city’s citizens to open a more permanent location. Soon, a building owned by Catholic Charities became the new shelter.

Over the course of a decade, the shelter quickly expanded, adopting new programs and services. Shade Tree soon outgrew its building, and a grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation made it possible to build a new shelter. Today, the organization occupies the same space and qualifies as the largest shelter in the State of Nevada that provides 24-hour service to women, children, and their pets. With 264 permanent beds, Shade Tree provides shelter for individuals of all ages. The shelter runs programs for victims of violence, in addition to offering an extensive library and other amenities.

Guy Bennallack serves as the Chief Executive Officer of HBR, LLC, a general construction company located in Las Vegas. Dedicated to his community, Guy Bennallack donates to several philanthropic organizations, including Shade Tree Shelter.
